After looking for one product online(a dog house) I found it sells for about $230 (list price) and on sale about $130. Then, I looked for suppliers of dog houses. The same product as far as I can see from the pictures is manufactured in China. If I were buying this product, I would gladly buy it from my carpenter/woodworker neighbor at the same price. I am sure my neighbor would be glad, too, to sell it to me.In fact, my neighbor could partner with the other woodworker one block down from us and make the product at a faster pace(one does the roof and the other does the floor and the sides). Maybe there are more woodworkers in the neighborhood. I don’t know. Then, all these woodworkers could supply the local pet store with awesome local dog houses. And, at night I could go to sleep more comfortably knowing that I helped the local economy and a group of small business owners(some of them are my neighbors.) Well, the model is to, probably, tally of products that we are buying everyday and figure out which can be locally manufactured, again, and tally of our own strengths and bringing them together(fell free too add, I am just thinking out loud.) Maybe a shared facility for people with talent, like incubators. Not to forget our choices, like buying local. Maybe deals with supermarkets which can work with these talented people looking for work and be productive. I don’t know. I am just self brain – storming.
