Make Entrepreneurship a part of the EDUCATION standards in Ameri

Make Entrepreneurship a part of the EDUCATION standards in America.

We don't have enough jobs - teach students how to run a business, make it fun, they should know how to make a living themselves. Too many college and high school kids think when they are done with school they go hunting for jobs - teach them to make their own living.

Then offer free training via service providers like the SBA.

  1. Yes! Success (at least by some definitions I consider to be enlightened) is found by creating jobs for others to occupy, not by occupying a job someone else created. So called "education" (really "training") in the USA is about developing skills to get a job. What about creating jobs? Job creation isn't only the realm of fiscal or monetary policy specialist. It's about recognizing opportunities, knowing how to build a company to take advantage of the opportunity, and then actually building that company.

Ignoring for the moment the religious discussion regarding whether or not one can teach "entrepreneurship", IMHO, America's educational system should focus on the basic skills and let the motivated students reach out and find programs such as DECA, Junior Achievement and colleges/universities that have entrepreneurial programs.

  3. Here is one innovative way Denver is incorporating entrepreneurship into the classroom. A new charter school focused on entrepreneurship: http://www.ventureprep.org/

  4. As a long-term goal, I would like to see more emphasis placed on experiential learning and critical thinking vs. memorization of facts, figures and formulas. In today's world, you can access the information most students are required to memorize with the click of a mouse. We need students who know how to access information, not recite it.
