Not sure about "free health care," but certainly not prohibitively expensive or inaccessible healthcare. How many people do we all know who think the way their employers do something is stupid? If 1 in 100 of them TRIED to compete (that's what capitalism and efficient allocation of economic resources want, isn't it?) with former employers, not only would there be MORE jobs, but also BETTER products and services at more competitive prices. That's how money moves back from Wall Street shareholders to Main Street business owners and their employees.
My point being this: if I can't leave my job without risking the physical well-being of my family (e.g. because I can't afford insurance without my current employer's help), I'm MUCH less likely to go out on a limb and start my own business.
Health Insurance is a complicated issue which is related to Health Care. I believe Health Care is a basic human right for every human on our small planet. The question remains; is the distribution of health care by the free market the best way for the health of our nation and planet? Many people can not afford even basic health care and therefore they are less or not productive. Increases in productivity are important to our economy and a small investment could yield a large return? Sincerely Harry Hansen age 61.
I continue to be concerned about the distribution of health care using a free market model. Doctors and nurses now call us consumers, not patients. Also dental care is more important then we understand. It is not uncommon for someone to have a toothache and there is no resource available to pull the tooth. Many dentists will not pull teeth and they will send a patient to an oral surgeon who will refuse to accept a patient without a very large down payment on his bill. A toothache can be a very serious disability and substantially reduces productivity. Many of Americans poor have no resources to deal with a dental problem.
