Regulations and Reporting are a Hassle

Create a unified online platform for meeting local, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements. Ideally, provide a 2 year exemption for new information technology scalable startups on all permits, taxes (all types, except medicare), and reporting requirements. There should be no requirements for exemption. Alternatively, all qualified startups must included at least one college-level ABET accredited... more »

SBA Loans are too difficult to obtain.

Reduce the hurdles to obtain an SBA loan. The current process is nearly impossible to navigate and the sponsoring banks don't seem to want to help.

You can qualify for a $50k car in an afternoon yet it takes weeks or months to qualify for the same SBA loan.

Lack of access to capital kills great ideas every day. Technology fields specifically need to move fast or we end up watching our competition (other countries)... more »

Companies can help too!

Offer tax incentives to established companies who sponsor an entrepreneur/ start-up.

Many companies are sitting on the sidelines right now with plenty of cash to invest but no motivation to do so.

If companies were given a tax benefit for sponsoring startup companies it would relax the issues that often derail investment such as low-valued companies having to give away a large percentage of the company in the first... more »

S23 "Patent Reform" will not help Small Business

"Patent Reform" gives advantages to Big Business at the expense of Start-Ups and Independent Inventors. Changing to First-to-File does nothing to eliminate the 3 year backlog of Patents Waiting for review.

Issue a policy memorandum to Patent Examiners to issue patents rather than send out irrelevant Office Actions.

Remove the entire "Fundraising Counsel" requirement from the sta

Remove the entire "Fundraising Counsel" requirement from the state attorney general's office. I mean, I understand the reason for it: to curb fundraising abuse. But there is too much red tape for this that prevents small businesses and small charities and nonprofits from even participating. For example, we developed an application to do mobile/SMS fundraising; we planned to sell this service to nonprofits because it is... more »

Better Networking will lead to Better Ideas.

Entrepreneurs need easy access to experts and knowledge. But how? Face-to_face networking still rules.

There are hundreds of business, technology and life science networking opportunities that happen everyday. The problem is entrepreneurs do not know where to find the events that matter. What is needed is a national database of of business, technology and life science events so that people can start connecting.... more »

Centralize New Company Formation

The myriad of forms at the federal, state, and local level could be simplified with a centralized website. If there was a federal site to collect company information, state and local agencies could subscribe and be fed any information they needed so you could register with all appropriate entities at one time.

Those agencies that could not use a "high-tech" feed could have the forms emailed to them as a PDF.

This... more »

Streamline & Fast Track

Time is money for start-ups too...perhaps more so given the higher costs of capital and reduced resources and business infrastructure! The SBA can assist in streamlining and bundling of selected critical processes across Federal agencies to enable entrepreneurs to form new legal entities, hire resources and generate revenue faster. In addition to streamlining, the SBA could assist multiple agencies in being more proactive... more »

TVM

Time Value of Money - suggest simplification of regulations & tax code. More carrots - fewer sticks. SBA loan program may have streamlined/changed, however, the perception of the process remains negative among many lenders.

Encourage exchange and barter by taxing them less

The biggest hurdle a start up has is financing, initially and in the first couple years. Banks won't lend to a new business that isn't backed by brick and mortar collateral (if then) and venture capital is only for the privileged few.

This country has an excess of capacity. Why can't make we make it a priority to use this capacity by taxing the exchange of services and products (barter) at lesser rate than normal transactions.... more »

Incubator Project to Create 1100 Jobs

I don't know where the first one went, but, Commercial and community banks are not doing SBA loans in our area. They say that if they like the project they will do it themsleves. They don't want to do the papaerwork. This leaves room for bias for small and minority businesses. Suggestion; more or start mandatory trainning for Banks to remain in the program. Set minimum requirements of loans to stay in the program. Do... more »
