Distributed local production models where and when possible.

After looking for one product online(a dog house) I found it sells for about $230 (list price) and on sale about $130. Then, I looked for suppliers of dog houses. The same product as far as I can see from the pictures is manufactured in China. If I were buying this product, I would gladly buy it from my carpenter/woodworker neighbor at the same price. I am sure my neighbor would be glad, too, to sell it to me.In fact,... more »

B&B for 416 E. Fairview Ave. Montgomery, AL

Make opening a Bed and Breakfast a Constitutional right. "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of property or happiness" should not be subject to a city council vote when the dwelling is also the home of the owner. These home businesses thrive only if the neighborhood remains residential in nature. Hence, these types of business owners have a natural incentive to be good care takers of their home and their right to remain... more »

Distibuted renewable energy

Mandate truly distributed renewable energy systems(solar panels on the roofs etc.) and encourage local assembly and / or manufacturing. In return more small business contractors getting more work. Plus the more efficient systems and less loss on the grid. Here is a Cap Stone paper presented to the officials of CPS Energy of San Antonio, TX for some ideas: http://www.scribd.com/doc/52873029/CPS-Paper-final-december2009.... more »

Opportunities for local caterers

Ask the schools, colleges, universities open some percentage of their meal plans and student food services to local caterers or providers. Help the smaller local providers compete in the student food services of schools.

NAICS CODE

I have attended many Government conferences as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business, and have noticed the Government is still using the antique method of buying products based on NAICS Codes.
As an example I supply custom made to order wire and cable.
So I registered to receive RFQ as a SDVOSB so I list the best matched it’s not a good match but best match I entered NAICS code 335929, and 331422.
So I get hundreds... more »

Small Business Administration Proposed Rule.13 CFR Part 121; RIN

Regarding the Small Business Administration Proposed Rule.13 CFR Part 121; RIN 3245-AG07; Small Business Size Standards: Professional, Scientific and Technical Services:

SBA’s published size standards methodology is exceedingly convoluted and it is difficult for businesses to determine the validity of the size evaluation when faced with the array of statistical based analysis and non-fact related benchmarks for industries... more »

Small Business Administration Proposed Rule.13 CFR Part 121; RIN

The $27.0 Million Size Standard and Past Performance Requirements. The majority of contracts in the Military Weapons exemption for NAICS Code 541330 code are so large that even though a firm may be considered “large” at 27.0 million, the firm often cannot meet the past performance requirements stipulated in Government Requests for Proposal (RFPs) which demand “contracts of similar size and scope.” Consequently, small... more »

Effect of Size Standards on the Erosion of the Mid-Level Compani

Effect of Size Standards on the Erosion of the Mid-Level Companies. In recent years, mid-size firms, by virtue of being neither small enough nor large enough to successfully compete, have consistently and considerably seen their share of the market decline, according to Gregory Sanders et al.’s report Structure and Dynamics of the U.S. Federal Professional Services Industrial Base 1995-2009 (see figure 3-14, Sanders et... more »

University participation in Regional Economic Clusters

The EDA has released a request for proposal for a grant that encourages regional competitiveness by the formation of business clusters designed to create new businesses and therefore jobs. Let's encourage professors of public universities to participate in clusters. In exchange for their participation they could qualify for tenure benefits or stock options. Eliminate their demand for direct hourly compensation since... more »

FAST PATENT PROCESS

Streamline the patent process. Put a patent office in every state capital specifically geared only towards hard tangible consumer products, not processes or software and the like. Just manufactured hard consumer products. And government funds to help get the product into the market. The key to getting government funding would be contractual in nature to keep the manufacturing here on American soil for a period of at least... more »

Heathcare for all

I suggest we dump Obamacare and replace it with National single-payer catastrophic health insurance, severing once and for all the job and innovation destroying linkage between healthcare and employment and allowing entrepreneurs to risk their fortunes without also having to risk the health of themselves and their families.

National Renewable Portfolio Standard

I suggest you create a National RPS of at least 30% by 2030. Recent studies show that renewable energy is the fastest growing sector in the economy, and is creating the most jobs, and generating power that is less expensive than than new conventional energy (even if it does cost more than conventional energy from old fully depreciated power plants that are due for replacement).

But, the United States is one of only... more »
